How the Children’s Advocacy Center Helps Families

11 Feb How the Children’s Advocacy Center Helps Families

The William W. Barnes Children’s Advocacy Center provides a safe and child-friendly facility for coordinated intervention in child abuse cases.

Open since 2001 in Claremore the Center provided services to 346 children in 2012, alone.

CAC is able to provide medical examinations, forensic interviews, mental health treatment and additional help tailored to victims and non-offending parents.

CAC staff says there are many benefits to this approach including:

Reduced trauma to the child victim

  • Children receive prompt treatment that is tailored to meet their specific needs
  • More effective decisions are made by sharing professional knowledge and expertise
  • Non-offending parents are empowered to protect their children
  • Allegations of child abuse are more thoroughly investigated
  • The community is better educated about the problem of child abuse
  • The community is better able to identify gaps in the system and is empowered to develop more resources

The Center facilitates collaboration among multiple agencies:

  • Law Enforcement
  • District Attorney’s Office
  • Child Protection Services
  • Mental Health professionals
  • Medical professionals
  • Victim Advocates

The Children’s Advocacy Center can be reached by calling:  (918) 283-2800
