Angel Morales is sentenced to 15 years behind bars plus five years of probation for multiple crimes including driving under the influence of alcohol and several drugs causing great bodily injury.

Morales was driving a borrowed vehicle while out on bond without a valid driver’s license or insurance when he drove over Bradley Wilkerson who was riding his motorcycle on Highway 20 in Claremore.  Wilkerson spent a month in the hospital with multiple injuries including broken ribs, collapsed lungs, a torn aorta and his left leg so mangled it had to be amputated above the knee.

Morales plead guilty to the DUI with great bodily injury as well as unrelated drug and drug paraphernalia charges, misdemeanor charges of obstructing an officer and escape from arrest-detention plus three felony counts of child endangerment because he had three, young, children in his vehicle when he hit Morales.

Wilkerson read his 31 page victim impact statement during sentencing detailing the pain, physical and financial ruin he’s endured as a result of the crimes.  Before concluding he removed his prosthetic leg to show the court and Morales the scars covering his residual limb.

Morales stood and apologized to Wilkerson before he was sentenced.
