A jury finds Jack Wayne McKerrell Jr. guilty of eluding police, driving under suspension and failure to stop then recommends he spend 25 years in prison for his crimes.  The jury deliberated for five minutes.

Rogers County District Attorney Matt Ballard says  “We are pleased with the jury’s verdict.  The speed with which they came back with this verdict shows just how blatant McKerrell was when he broke the law, eluded one of our officers and put the safety of everyone around him that night in serious jeopardy.”

Around 8:00pm the evening of September 6, 2014 McKerrell ran a stop sign.  Claremore Police Officer Ricky Probst initiated a stop but McKerrell sped away on his motorcycle down Will Rogers Boulevard where for more than a mile he exceeded speeds of 100 miles per hour.

Soon after McKerrell crashed his motorcycle and quickly the Claremore Fire Department and Claremore PD responded to the scene where McKerrell and his passenger were found bloodied but alive despite the fact neither was wearing a helmet.

McKerrell is a five time convicted felon:
Possession of Stolen Vehicle
Possession of Stolen Vehicle
Possession of Firearm After Former Conviction of a Felony
Controlled Drug Schedule II
Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle
*All crimes and convictions occurred in Tulsa County

Assistant District Attorney Jackson McMcClaren prosecuted the case.

The 25 year sentence is for the felony offense of eluding a police officer.  For driving under suspension and failure to stop the jury recommends $600 in fines.

McKerrell’s sentencing is scheduled for December 7, 2015 at 9:30am in the Rogers County Courthouse.
