06 Nov Man Sentenced to 40 Years in Prison for Molesting a Young Girl

Frank Merritt Thompson is sentenced to 40 years in prison on two felony counts of lewd molestation. Thompson admitted the abuse began when the girl was just 14 years old and continued for several years.
Despite admitting his crimes the pre-sentence investigation (PSI) says Thompson tried to down play the sexual assault and even claimed it was consensual and the child “enjoyed the attention”.
In talking to the victim the PSI reports she felt imprisoned by Thompson and says “…it hurts me that now that the truth is finally in the light he is continuing to lie.”
Thompson’s victim went on to say she forgives him.
The Judge imposed concurrent sentences for the two counts of lewd molestation: 20 years in prison with six years suspended. Thompson must also register as a sex offender.
