Victims of violent crimes in Oklahoma receive more than $3 million every year through the Victim’s Compensation Fund. Types of compensation include medical bills, counseling, mileage, funeral expenses, lost wages, and loss of future support for minor children of the victim.

DA Matt Ballard says, “The victim compensation fund helps make people financially whole following their victimization in a violent crime. My office handles all the victim comp claims in my three counties, including cases that go Tribal or Federal, and in criminal cases where the perpetrator hasn’t been identified.”

When Ballard’s staff informed Christina’s mother, Shirley Vanderpool, of the program, she says it was a Godsend, “We would find a way without it, but it takes a lot of stress off just knowing that other people are working with you and for you to get you the benefits that are rightfully yours.”

On March 27, 2026, Clifton waived his preliminary hearing and is scheduled for sentencing under an agreed-upon plea of life in prison. The plea date is set for April 30, 2026, at 2 pm.

Christina’s family will present their victim impact statements on that day, sharing how the horrible crime has affected their lives.
