Claremore, OKLA Apr 30, 2026 – 51-year-old Clifton Hampton enters a guilty plea to the first-degree murder of his wife, Christina, and the judge sentences him to life in prison.
Because it was an agreed plea, Hampton loses any appeal rights. The life in prison term means he will not be eligible for parole consideration until he is nearly 90 years old. Christina’s family fully supported this disposition because they did not want to face the further trauma of going through a trial and the potential for an appeal after that.
District Attorney Matt Ballard feels confident a jury trial would have resulted in a verdict of life in prison without the possibility of parole, but he felt it was important to abide by the victim’s family’s feelings and wishes. “Christina’s murder has left a terrible void within her family and the entire community. She was a devoted mother, nurse, and volunteer for the high school football team. She made a positive impact on so many lives.”

During Clifton’s confession to Rogers County investigators, he admitted Christina wanted a divorce, called him pathetic, and revealed she and her friends had been making fun of him. So he killed her.

Ballard says, “It is pure tragedy that her husband decided to take her life in a senseless and horribly vicious crime. Perhaps the only silver lining is that her memory lives on, inspiring all of those who knew and loved her. And that Clifton Hampton is exactly where he needs to be, behind bars, hopefully until his own death.”
