Claremore, OKLA Dec 10, 2024 – District Attorney Matt Ballard, District 12 is recognizing his SVU Investigator Gary Stansill’s 50th year serving in law enforcement.
Members of Oklahoma law enforcement and people from helping agencies who work with Stansill to help victims of crime will be in attendance. Several of them have known and worked with Gary since he graduated from the Tulsa Police Academy in August of 1974.
District Attorney Matt Ballard has worked with Stansill for more than ten years,
“It’s an honor to know Gary and to have him on my team. It is impossible to overstate the impact he’s had fighting crime and bringing criminals to justice across Oklahoma. He works with the most traumatized, vulnerable victims. He has a unique ability to restore some of their sense of safety and he advocates for people who have endured some of the most horrific crimes imaginable. He is a truly gifted investigator. As a prosecutor, I’ve seen how he partners with my ADAs making our cases stronger and making the community safer.”
Investigator Stansill is a lifelong Tulsan who began his law enforcement career with TPD. In the mid-80s he became a detective and toward the end of that decade was most often called on to investigate sex crimes, both adult and child victims as well as child abuse.
He was at the forefront of bringing a multidisciplinary team approach to investigating sex crimes and child abuse. That team approach was brand new in the late 80s but under Stansill’s leadership and team building the Justice Center became a national model to reduce trauma for young victims.
