Following a week-long trial late Friday May 25th a jury came back with a unanimous guilty verdict against Ronald “Ronnie” Manners (DOB 12/22/1968) for sexually abusing an 8 year old girl.

Investigators showed Manners orchestrated the opportunity to be alone with the little girl and kissed her on the mouth, stroked her inner thigh and touched her vagina.

Children’s Advocacy Center Forensic Interviewer Jodi Hunt explained on the stand to the jury it is common for child victims to delay disclosure, to disclose the details “in layers” over time and the fact 60%-80% of child sexual abuse victims do not disclose until they’re adults.

Manners was a second grade teacher at a Vinita Elementary School when the crime occurred.  His wife ran a daycare in the Manners’ home.

Prosecutor Kali Strain says “It’s traumatic for a child to have to go on the witness stand and tell a room full of strangers the most horrific thing that has ever happened to her.  We sincerely thank the jury for its service and sending Manners to prison where he belongs.”

The jury acquitted Manners on a second count of child sexual abuse.

Manners is in the Craig County jail awaiting his formal sentencing set for July 9, 2018.
