Scott Montgomery Bennett of Los Angeles, California is guilty of rape by instrumentation and sexual battery against a young woman.

The jury watched surveillance video of Bennett prevent the victim, who was clearly unsteady on her feet, from exiting an elevator on the lobby level then taking her back to the floor where his room was located.  When she falls to the ground he partially undresses her in the hallway before fondling her with his hand and mouth.  He then takes her into his room for 35 minutes.  At that point the video shows him dumping her on a different floor then returning a short time later leaving some of her belongings next to her in that hallway.  The attack happened December 5, 2014.

In addition to the video there was DNA evidence recovered and the victim’s panties were recovered from Bennett’s hotel room bedside table when a search warrant was executed.

Assistant District Attorney Edith Singer describes surveillance video of the crime as “Very, very, disturbing.”

Prosecutors credit Hard Rock Casino security for quickly securing and reviewing the video to reveal Bennett’s crimes.  Catoosa Police investigators were also integral to the case.

The victim and her family were in the courtroom for the entire week-long trial until hearing the jury’s guilty verdicts the evening of Friday April 29, 2016.

Just after the attack the victim told a Catoosa Detective she could not remember what happened however the video shows she made multiple attempts to get away from Bennett.

The jury recommends five years in prison for Bennett. The Judge will formally sentence Bennett June 14, 2016 at 9:30am. He must also register as a sex offender.
