03 May Mayes County Mother Sentenced For Death of Her Two Year Old Daughter

Angela Michele Russell received a 25 year suspended sentenced this afternoon by a Mayes County Judge for second degree murder in commission of a felony.
On September 27, 2014 the Chouteau woman had a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit (0.173) and barbiturates in her system when she strapped her two year old daughter to herself and climbed on an all-terrain vehicle. Baby Ava June Russell, only two years old at the time, did not have a helmet and hit the ground first when her mother wrecked the ATV then landed on top of the child.
In March 2016 Russell entered a plea of guilty writing on the Summary of Facts document filed with the court “I drove an ATV while under the influence of Alcohol (sic) and it resulted in an accident that led to my daughters (sic) death.”
The range of punishment for second-degree murder is 10 years to life and a fine of up to $10,000.
As part of the sentence Russell will be on Department of Corrections probation, must wear a drug/alcohol monitoring device for two years and submit to drug and alcohol assessment and mental health assessment.
