Kali Penn (DOB 9/18/2005) entered a guilty plea in a Mayes County Courtroom this afternoon. He admitted to savagely killing his aunt Tashina Monique Johnson in March of 2023. Penn told the judge he stabbed her more than 80 times. He gave the judge no reason or excuse for the brutal murder.
The medical examiner’s findings showed seven or eight of the initial stab wounds would have proved fatal.
Tashina was just 33 years old at the time of her death.

In a statement her mother said:
“To know that my baby girl died fighting for her life while Kali brutally stabbed her over and over again while calling her names and then when a knife got stuck (in her head) he got another (knife) to stab her more.
She had so many dreams that will never happen. She wanted to live in Korea and teach English. She loved learning and cared deeply about human rights and helping the underdogs in the world.”

Penn also took a five-year sentence after pleading guilty to charges he picked up while in jail for the crimes. Earlier this month he was combative with jailers and once subdued jailers found Kali had collected three shanks.
Mayes County District Attorney Matt Ballard said “This is one of the most brutal and horrific crimes I have seen in our district during my time as D.A. Penn butchered her there’s no other way to put it. It fell to us to stand up for Tashina. I hope it gives her family some peace and I hope now Tashina can rest in peace.”
