Julian Watson

CF-2018-26

The woman who suffered violent and repeated attacks, death threats and rapes by Julian Watson (DOB 7/23/1997) had her say in court before the judge told Watson his fate; 35 years in prison with five years suspended.   Due to the severity of his offenses Watson must serve 85% of the 30 years in prison before becoming eligible to work toward possible parole and probation.

Watson decided against going to a jury trial and instead entered pleas to the judge in August.  Resulting in conviction on two counts of first degree rape, robbery, assault while masked and burglary.

In the pre-sentence investigation conducted by the Department of Corrections Watson claimed he was sorry and drugs caused his violent actions.  However Claremore Police Investigator John Singer took the stand before sentencing to say when Watson first confessed he reported no drug use and Watson said his rage against his own mother was the reason for the attacks.  Singer also said this is the most violent rape case he’s ever seen.

During her statement the survivor said Watson has taken her home which she’s not been able to return to since the attacks, her independence because she cannot bear to be alone anymore, her career as a nurse due to the anxiety and PTSD she now suffers and her peace of mind.

Assistant District Attorney Kali Strain argued Watson took his victim’s life that night and he should pay by spending life in prison.

Both the victim in the case and prosecutor said they were satisfied with thirty years and respect the court’s decision.

The pre-sentence investigation also showed violent offenses committed by Watson when he was a juvenile.
