A Rogers County Jury returned guilty verdicts on March 7, 2016 against then 70 year old Gary Dumont Riggs (DOB: 4/18/45) for repeatedly raping and molesting a young girl over the course of more than two years.  The victim was only 12 years old when Riggs began the attacks.

Today the Judge formally sentenced Riggs to life in prison without parole for the three 1st degree rape convictions plus 20 years for the lewd molestation.  The life sentences to run concurrently and the 20 years consecutive to life.

Riggs was arrested by the Verdigris Police Department on May 6, 2015 and D.A. Ballard charged him with three counts of first degree rape and one count of lewd molestation.

ADA Zach Cabell says “Unfortunately Riggs left us no choice but to put his victim on the stand to testify.  In doing so he took no responsibility but did seize the chance to victimize her all over again by making her relive the rapes and other sexual abuse he did to the child.  Thanks to the diligent work of the jury he won’t be able to hurt her or any other child ever again.”

Leading up to the trial Verdigris Police also received investigative support from D.A. Ballard’s Sexual Assault Investigator Gary Stansill.
