District Attorney Hosts Drive to Collect Cell Phones for Domestic Violence Victims

01 Oct District Attorney Hosts Drive to Collect Cell Phones for Domestic Violence Victims

Again this year in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month the three offices of the District Attorney, 12th District, will take in used cell phones and accessories for the DAs Against DV program.

Phones and accessories collected during the month of October will go to HopeLine from Verizon. Those donated items are refurbished and either sold to raise money to put back into the program or provided to victims of domestic violence through community shelters and law enforcement agencies. The phones provided to victims come with 3,000 minutes of wireless service and text-messaging.

A cell phone can represent a reliable line of communication and protection to victims.  Batteries and charging cords are also needed.

Verizon, DAs across the state and the District Attorneys Association invite residents to get involved, donate their unused phones and help victims have a voice and a greater sense of security.

Through October 31, 2014 residents of Craig, Mayes and Rogers Counties can drop off their unused phones and accessories at the District Attorney’s office in their community. Monday – Friday from 8:30am – 4:30pm

Mayes County

All items will be taken to Verizon as part of the HopeLine program. Items can also be dropped off at Verizon stores during the month of October. For more information about HopeLine visit VerizonWireless.com/hopeline

As part of the refurbishing process Verizon will “scrub” all donated phones however people are encouraged to erase any personal data before dropping off phones.  (photos, text messages, voice mails, contacts in the address book, call logs and deleting any other media)

Any make or model of cellular phone will be accepted.  Phones too badly damaged to be refurbished will be recycled by Verizon.
