A Craig County Judge overruled a motion for a new trial for 49-year-old Ronald Manners, a former teacher at Vinita’s Hall-Halsell Elementary school.  Then handed down a 25 year prison sentence.

In May 2018 a jury found Manners guilty of child sexual abuse for luring an eight year old student to his home then kissing her on the mouth and touching her leg and vagina.

The jury recommended a 25 year prison sentence which the judge imposed Monday August 27, 2018 and Manners will have to register as a sex offender upon release.  Child sexual abuse is what’s known as an 85% crime meaning Manners cannot even be considered for parole until he’s served 85% of his 25 year sentence.

Special Victims Assistant District Attorney Kali Strain says it’s a just sentence given how completely Manners betrayed the trust a child should be able to count on from an adult, and in this case an adult who put himself in the position to teach young children.
